Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers Ltd (GRSE) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with GE Power Conversion.
GE Power Conversion is a pioneer in the field of integrated, full electric and hybrid propulsion systems for commercial and military naval sectors globally. With around 1,500 global ship references, GE Power Conversion best understands vessel power, energy, control operational needs and the technological design and know-how to deliver flexible and reliable solutions for Integrated, Full Electric and Hybrid Propulsion Systems. GE Power Conversion’s Engineering Design Centre, Chennai, India with its robust design team and infrastructure is supporting multiple global and Indian projects, with specific focus on decarbonization.
GRSE is a shipbuilding company in India under the administrative control of the Ministry of Defense, Government of India, having vast experience in building and repairing wide range of commercial and naval vessels for the Indian Navy and other end users. GRSE’s major area of strength is their in-house design capabilities with 100 plus multi-disciplinary member team working towards development of various concept designs for current and future projects.
Since its takeover by the Government of India in 1960, GRSE has delivered high-end warships ranging from Fast Patrol Vessels, Survey Vessels, LSTs, LCUs, Fleet Tanker, Frigates and Missile & ASW Corvettes. Having modernized its infrastructure facilities, GRSE is using Advanced Modular Integrated Shipbuilding Technology in line with the best in the world. This has helped enhance its capacity to the present level of constructing twenty warships concurrently.
This MoU is a stepping-stone to leverage the technological expertise of GE Power Conversion, the ship building expertise of GRSE, and drive the synergy to design Electric and Hybrid Propulsion Systems for future commercial and naval ship building projects. The MoU would also support the commitment to self-reliance #Atmanirbharbharat, by bringing global technology, expertise, and design capabilities together with the supply chain.
