OEE Parameters Calculation for Discrete Lines
The OEE calculation for Discrete Lines is similar classic OEE mode approach to the OEE calculation for standard units. It measures the performance and quality losses in terms of loss of production availability or productivity that are attributed to the performance and quality, respectively.
Unlike Classic OEE, OEE for discrete lines uses NCM subsystem as a source for Quality data instead of Waste records. It relies on disposition type to separate Good and Bad Quality. Also, for individual unit, operations are considered as an output. OEE for finished good is calculated on the virtual unit for each discrete line.
The OEE parameters Availability, Performance, and Quality for discrete lines are calculated based on the formula described in the following table.
OEE Parameter | Calculation Formula |
---|---|
Availability |
Availability = Net availability run time/Planned production time, where, Net availability run time = Planned production time - Availability downtime. |
Performance |
Performance = Actual production/Target production. Where,
Note: Rework operations are not included in the
output count.
|
Quality |
Quality = Net production/Actual production Where,
Waste is the amount of operations where defects were generated (open defects are considered as bad quantity, normally scrap and rework are also considered as waste). |
Discrete Line OEE Parameters Calculation
In this example, the value for each OEE parameter per day for a discrete manufacturing plant is as shown in the following table.
Inputs | Value |
---|---|
Planned production time | 24hr |
Availability downtime unit 1 | 1hr |
Availability downtime unit 2 | 2hr |
Op 10 Actual production | 900 units |
Op 10 Target production | 1000 units |
Op 20 Actual production | 800 units |
Op 20 Target production | 1000 units |
Op 10 units with defects | 100 |
Op 20 units with defects | 100 |
The following table provides the value of each OEE parameter calculated based on the formula described in the earlier section.
OEE parameter | Parameter value | Formula used | Explanation |
---|---|---|---|
Availability | Unit 1: 23/24 = 96% Unit 2: 22/24=92% Virtual Unit = 100% |
Availability = Net availability run time/Planned production time. | For Unit 1: Planned production time = 24 hr Availability downtime = 1 hr Net availability run time = 24 - 1 = 23 hr For Unit 2 Planned production time = 24 hr Availability downtime = 2 hr Net availability run time = 24 - 2 = 22 hr |
Performance |
Unit 1 900/1000 = 0.9 Unit 2 800/1000 = 0.8 Virtual Unit 800/1000 = 0.8 |
Performance = Actual production/Target production | Unit 1: Actual production = 900 bottles Target production = 1000 bottles
Unit 2: Actual production = 800 bottles Target production = 1000 bottles
Virtual Unit: Actual production = 800 bottles (both operations complete) Target production = 1000 bottles |
Quality | Unit 1 800/900 = 0.8889 Unit 2 700/800=0.875 |
Quality = Net production/Actual production | Unit 1: Actual production = 900 bottles Waste = 100 bottles Net production = 900 - 100 = 800 bottles Unit 2: Actual production = 800 bottles Waste = 100 bottles Net production = 800 - 100 = 700 bottles |
