Events

About Asset Events

You can display past events that affected the selected asset instance in a Timeline or Grid view.

All events that affected the selected asset instance in the past are listed in the Event section in date order (Timeline view) with the newest date first, by default. GE Digital APM displays the first 10 events in the list and allows you to continue scrolling for additional events.

Information displayed for each event in the Timeline view is as follows:

Note: Alerts that belong to another tenant will not appear in the Events section.

You can expand an Alert Event in the Timeline view to display the history of actions taken for that alert.

You can navigate between the Timeline and Grid view.

Selecting the Grid view allows you to display and navigate to the events in a table, where you can sort and filter the entries. The Grid view displays all event types and includes the following searchable fields:
  • Severity
  • Event Name
  • Event ID
  • Event Type
  • Event Owner
  • Event Timestamp
  • Last Updated

You can search within the listed events in the Timeline or Grid view. All criteria entered into the Search box provides results that match the data in the view.

You can select a custom or preset time-range to display events using . The displays events for the current timestamp through the past week by default.

Selecting an alert or case link from the list in the Timeline or Grid view accesses the selected alert or case in a new window.

Search for an Event

You can search for events that match selected criteria.

About This Task

You can search all of the displayed events, including comments, in both the Timeline or Grid views.

Results are displayed by matching criteria to the data in the fields available in the view. Search results for alert and case name or alert type are based on the date range selected.

Procedure

  1. In the module navigation menu, go to Assets > Asset Instances.
  2. Use the Context Browser to select an asset context.
  3. Select the Events link.
  4. Enter a search string for the event criteria in the Search box.
    After you press ENTER, all instances that have a match appear.

Select a Date Range for Events

You can display events in the Timeline or Grid view that occur within a custom or preset time-range.

About This Task

Events display for the current timestamp through the past week by default.

Procedure

  1. In the module navigation menu, go to Assets > Asset Instances.
  2. Use the Context Browser to select an asset context.
  3. Select the Events link.
  4. Optional: Select to open the Grid view.
  5. Select to select the range and time selections for all the events on the view.
  6. Select a date on the left and right calendars to select a custom date range for the events list, and then select Apply.
    You can also select one of the Presets using this window. Alternatively, you can enter dates and times directly in the Date Range From and To boxes.
    The date range changes based on your selections. Events are displayed within the set date range.

Access Event Types in the Timeline View

You can narrow the events listed for the selected asset instance by selecting an Event Type.

About This Task

The following Event Types apply:
This event typeLists these events
(Alerts)Displays all alert type events within the selected date range. Is expandable to display all applicable history for a selected alert.
(Cases)Displays all case type events within the selected date range.
AllDisplays all event types within the selected date range.
Note: The numerical count of possible events displays in the Event Type section.

Procedure

  1. In the module navigation menu, go to Assets > Asset Instances.
  2. Use the Context Browser to select an asset context.
  3. Select the Events link.
  4. Select one of the following Event Types:
    • All
    • (Alerts Events)
    • (Cases Events)
    A list of events matching your selection displays.

Expand an Alert Event in the Timeline View

You can display associated Alert timeline events for a selected Alert Event.

About This Task

Alert timeline events include the following:
  • Associated cases
  • Alert dispositions
  • Notes with expandable comments
Each event in the Alert timeline includes the name of the event, the type of event, the date and time of the event, and the owner of the event.
Tip: You can navigate to an associated Case from the expanded Alert timeline event.

Procedure

  1. In the module navigation menu, go to Assets > Asset Instances.
  2. Use the Context Browser to select an asset context.
  3. Select the Events link.
  4. Select the date range for the events.
  5. Select .
  6. Optional: In a Timeline view, select the Alert Event Type.
    The All Event Type is selected by default.
  7. Find an Alert Event in the Timeline view list.
  8. Select next to the Alert Event.
    The selected Alert Event expands to display the associated Alert timeline events.

Filter Events in the Grid View

You can filter the entries in the Grid view, narrowing the possible entries.

About This Task

Each column in the grid can be filtered to narrow the displayed event entries. Multiple filters can be used to further narrow the displayed events.

Procedure

  1. In the module navigation menu, go to Assets > Asset Instances.
  2. Use the Context Browser to select an asset context.
  3. Select the Events link.
  4. Select .
  5. At the top of one or more columns, enter at least three characters in the Filter box.
    As you type, all matching instances of the entered criteria appear.

Sort Events in the Grid View

You can sort the entries in the Grid view by column.

About This Task

Entries are displayed in descending order by default.

Procedure

  1. In the module navigation menu, go to Assets > Asset Instances.
  2. Use the Context Browser to select an asset context.
  3. Select the Events link.
  4. Select .
  5. Select a column header.

    The event entries are sorted in ascending order by the selected header. Selecting the column header again sorts the events in descending order.
