About Linking Assets and Tags

The linking process involves Tag records, which represent sensors on physical machines, being linked to equipment or functional locations representing the same machines in GE Digital APM. The linking process can be completed by linking Tags to equipment or functional locations through the Hierarchy view or the Systems view.

When viewing a Tag record in Record Manager, the related Equipment or Functional Location record will be displayed in the Record Explorer.

Note: To receive tag data, the Tag record must be related to an equipment or functional location record.

Link Tags and Assets

Assets and tags can be linked in two ways using the Hierarchy or using the Systems view.

Steps: Link Tags and Assets: Hierarchy View

Procedure

Access the Systems and Tags page, and then select Hierarchy View.

The Hierarchy View page appears, displaying the Asset Hierarchy.
Navigate the Asset Hierarchy, and then select the asset to which you want to link a tag.

The Linked Tags grid appears displaying linked tags.
Optionally, to search the linked tags, select the
Select Link Tags.

The Select Tags to Link window appears.
Select the type of tag that you want to link using the drop-down.

The type of tags appears.
To navigate specific tags you want to link, select the
Select the next to each of the tags you want to link.

The tags appear in the Selected Tags workspace.
To remove a tag, from the Selected Tags workspace select the check box next to the tag you want to remove, then select
Unlink Tag
Select Link Tag.

The new tag(s) appear in the workspace, and the tag is linked to the asset.

Steps: Link Tags and Assets: Systems View

Access the Systems and Tags page, and then select the name of the in which you want to link tags and assets.

The <System Name> page appears, displaying a list of all the tags that can be linked to assets.
Optionally, to search for a specific system, select
Select the name of the tag to which you want to link an asset.

The assets list appears, displaying linked assets.
Optionally, to search for a linked asset, select the
Select the Link Asset button.

The Link Asset To Tag window appears, displaying the Asset Hierarchy.
Navigate the Asset Hierarchy to the asset to which you want to link the tag.
Select Link Asset.

The Link Asset To Tag window closes, and a confirmation message appears, indicating that the asset is linked to the tag.

Unlink Tags and Assets

Assets and tags can be unlinked in two ways using the Hierarchy or using the Systems view.

Procedure

Access the Systems and Tags page, and then select Hierarchy.

The Hierarchy page appears, displaying the Asset Hierarchy.
Navigate the Asset Hierarchy, and then select the asset from which you want to unlink a tag.
The Linked Tags section appears, displaying linked tags.
Optionally, to search the linked tags, select
Select the check box in the row for the tag that you want to unlink from the asset.
Select , and then select Unlink Tag.

The Confirm Unlink Asset window appears.
Select Yes.

The tag is unlinked from the asset.

Steps: Unlink Tags and Assets: System View

Access the Systems and Tags page, select Systems, and then select the name of the system from which you want to unlink tags and assets.

The <System Name> page appears, displaying a list of all the tags that can be linked to assets.
Optionally, to search for a specific tag, select

Select the <Tag Name> from which you want to unlink an asset.
The assets list appears, displaying linked assets.
Optionally, to search for a linked asset select

Select the check box in the row for the asset that you want to unlink from the tag.

The Confirm Unlink Asset window appears.
Select Yes.

The tag is unlinked from the asset.
