About the Log File on a Windows Mobile Device

The log file contains information about events that have occurred on the Windows Mobile Device while you were using the GE Digital APM. In some cases, these events produce errors, which are also recorded in the log. For each event, you will see the following information:

  • The date and time the event took place.
  • The type of entry included in the log: Error, Info, Trace, Debug, Warn, Fatal
  • A brief message about the event.
  • A full description of the event if it produced an error.

For example, consider the following entry:

08/24/2009 15:10:42|Info|Creating Schema for Application||

From this entry, you can see that:

  • The event was recorded at 15:10:42 (3:10:42 PM).
  • The log contains an Info entry for this event.
  • The event occurred when you created the schema for the application.
  • No full description is provided.

When an event produces an error, the log entry also contains the error information. For example, consider the following entry:

07/09/2009 15:21:42|Error|There was a problem synchronizing.|TargetInvocationExceptionSystem.Reflection.TargetInvocationException: TargetInvocationException...

Note: The error would continue, but the ellipsis has been added to the documentation to shorten the example.

From this entry, you can see that:

  • The event was recorded at 15:21:42 (3:21:42 PM).
  • The log contains an Error entry for this event.
  • The error resulted from the Windows Mobile Device being unable to synchronize.
  • A full description of the error is provided.

View a Log of Recent Activity on a Windows Mobile Device

About This Task

When you perform certain actions on the Windows Mobile Device, such as select Sync to download Route records, the actions are recorded in a text file that is stored in the folder in which GE Digital APM was installed.

This file contains information about errors that have occurred and other actions that have been performed. Most likely, you will need to use the log to troubleshoot problems you might encounter.

Procedure

  1. On the Windows Mobile Device, navigate to the folder in which the GE Digital APM is installed (My Device\Program Files\APM Mobile Framework).
  2. Access the file log.
    The file appears, displaying the log details.
