Charts
About Charts
Use and modify charts to suit special circumstances during analysis.
You can use charts to evaluate asset data using different views.
When you select an asset, the system retrieves the default view for assets of this class. To plot tags from the default view, you must search for tags using the Search field. You can save the analysis view, making it available as an Analysis Template in the view selector.
You can create multiple different chart-types on a single card in the Ad Hoc Analysis view.
When a plotted tag is assigned a color, that color is associated with that tag. The tag is plotted with that color on every chart for which it is displayed.
Access a Chart from an Alert
You can use an Analysis View template to review performance charts associated with an alert and to gather evidence to help resolve the alert.
About This Task
When an asset source connects to the time-series database, designated analytics parse the data using threshold values. If one or more threshold values are not met, Predix Essentials generates an alert. The system checks for an associated alert template as it creates the alert. When you navigate to the Alert Inbox and select the alert, a list of associated chart views under the Analysis section appear. Select a chart to access the Analysis View in a new page.
Asset Data and SmartSignal alerts both use analysis chart templates to create an Analysis View chart.
Analysis View templates automatically populate an asset, a time range, and a default view for the chart. The list of plotted tags is based on the alert template in use. When an alert template does not exist, the list of plotted tags is retrieved in the alert.
You can share a filter from an Analysis View Chart. Filters can be value-based or conditional and are shared to other analysis templates.
You can add predefined or custom threshold lines to a chart. Custom threshold lines are configurable.
SmartSignal alerts include both contributing tags (tags that have contributed to the alert) and non-contributing tags (participated in the analytic for which the advisory was created).
When you select a SmartSignal Analysis View chart in an alert, all of the generated alerts for the selected asset are visible in the Tag Browser.
- Find additional tags.
- Plot additional tags.
- Change the date range.
- Mute or unmute data on the chart.
- Zoom in on an area on a chart.
- View data in a tooltip.
- Display tag information.
- Save a chart as evidence to an alert.
- Display only the real values for tags.
- Display only analytics predicted value for tags.
- Add threshold lines to a chart.
- Update the Analysis View template.
Procedure
Add Additional Charts to a Card
You can add multiple Analysis and SmartSignal charts to a card.
About This Task
When you add a chart to a card, you can modify the chart name and select a chart type, then begin plotting for the chart.
Procedure
Delete a Chart
You can delete a time-series chart in the Ad hoc Analysis instance when two or more charts are present on the card.
About This Task
If you delete a chart, all tags, reference curves and tag expressions unique to the deleted chart are removed from the plotted tags list. If all charts are deleted from a card, you will be able to select a chart type.
Procedure
Arrange the Chart Order on a Card
You have the ability to move one chart up and another chart down, if there are more than two charts on the card.
Procedure
Resize a Chart
You can increase the height of a chart to improve the vertical resolution and view a clearer picture.
Procedure
- In the module navigation menu, select .
- Use the Context Browser to select an asset context.
- Select Resize.
- Hover over the current SmartSignal chart, and then select to increase the size up to two times.
- Hover over the current chart, and then select to return to default size.
Enable Chart Navigator
About This Task
You can show or hide the chart navigator in a chart as needed. Hiding the chart navigator maximizes the space in which you access the chart.
Procedure
Export a Chart as an Image
About This Task
You can export a single chart as an image, or a series of charts on a card as images. The images are exported as a .PNG file. The default file name is the same as chart name. The chart Timeline Slider is not exported. The .PNG file standard UoM appears for the chart if it has been converted, otherwise it the source UoM appears.
Images can be exported from both the Time Series Analysis and Event Data Analysis views. You must select an action for each card to export all the charts on separate cards in the view.
- The chart image.
- All legends on the axes.
- The Chart Registers with the tag names and asset names.Note: The Chart Register does not appear in the Event Data Analysis view.
Procedure
- To export a single chart as an image:
- To export a series of charts on a card as images:
Add Threshold Lines to a Chart
You can add predefined or custom threshold lines to a SmartSignal or Analysis chart.
About This Task
After you have added a threshold line to a chart, it appears in the Plotted Tags section. You can edit the line by hovering over the plotted threshold in the Plotted Tags section and selecting an option.
When you add threshold lines to a chart you have created, you can save the chart as a template. See Save an Analysis Template. When you add threshold lines to an existing template, you can update the template to save the changes. See Modify an Analysis Template.
You can add the new chart to an alert or case as evidence. See Add a Chart as Evidence in an Alert and Add a Chart as Evidence in a Case.
Procedure
Zoom in Chart Data
Use zooming to magnify a data selection along both its X- and Y-axis. Use the timeline slider to zoom, narrowing the date range and eliminating extraneous chart data. Use the zoom panel to zoom incrementally along the X-axis, Y-axis, or both axes.
About This Task
You can zoom chart data for both a Time Series Analysis and an Event Data Analysis view.
When you zoom in on chart data by selecting the data, the date range on the timeline slider adjusts to the narrowed parameters. The date range selected for the view does not change.
The chart timeline slider, located at the bottom of each chart, mirrors the date range selected for the chart. You can hide some of the data visible on the chart by narrowing the time range.
Zooming resets the data resolution to default or the actual number of data points, whichever is less.
If there are multiple charts in the view, zooming one of the charts magnifies the remaining charts.
Procedure
- To zoom an Alert Analysis' chart data by selecting the data:
- To zoom an Analysis chart's data by selecting the data:
- To zoom using the zoom panel:
- To zoom using the chart timeline slider:
Reset Zoom for Chart Data
Resetting the zoom for a chart removes all the zooming effects applied.
About This Task
You can reset the chart data zoom for both a Time Series Analysis and an Event Data Analysis view.
Resetting the zoom for a chart resets both the X and Y-axis to the original date range selected. You can undo the last zoom applied multiple times.
Adding a new tag resets the zoom automatically. Muting or unmuting a tag does not reset the zoom.
Procedure
- To undo the last zoom on an Alert Analysis chart:
- In the module navigation menu, select .
- Select an Alert Inbox filter, and then select an alert.
- Select an alert analysis chart that has been zoomed.
- Select , and then select to hide the zoom panel.
- To undo the last zoom on an Analysis chart:
- In the module navigation menu, select .
- Select an analysis chart that has been zoomed.
- Select , and then select to hide the zoom panel.
- To reset the zoom to the date range selected:
- Select an alert analysis chart or an analysis chart that has been zoomed.
- Select , and then select to hide the zoom panel.
Add a Chart as Evidence in an Alert
You can save an Analysis chart as evidence in an alert so that others can see the health of the asset without having to access the Analysis page.
About This Task
Procedure
- To save an Analysis chart as evidence:
- To access the saved analysis evidence, select its associated link. You can access the saved analysis chart under the link.
- To delete analysis evidence:
- In the module navigation menu, select .
- Select an Alert Inbox filter, and then select an alert.
- In an alerts detail page, select next to the evidence to delete it.
Add a Chart as Evidence in a Case
You can save an Analysis chart as evidence in a case so that others can see the health of the asset without accessing the Analysis page.
Before You Begin
About This Task
- When an analysis template associated with a certain alert triggers the alert, it creates a case in the alert. You can view the case that is generated by the alert. You can then navigate to the Analysis section in the Case Detail page where you can view the templates associated with the alert and the name of the alert.
- When a large number of analysis templates (for example, 20) are associated with an alert, if the alert triggers and a case is created from that alert, you can view the Analysis section in the Case Detail page, which lists all of the analysis templates with the alert name as the source.
