If you want to use barcode or RFID scanning to assist mobile device users with accessing Routes and checkpoints on the mobile device, scan IDs must be assigned to Rounds records. Scan IDs are used to identify the barcode or RFID tag that is typically associated with a particular piece of equipment or location, and they are stored in the Scan ID field in the following records:
Note: If you assign a scan ID to an Equipment or Functional Location and you want the device to display related Routes or Measurement Locations for that piece of equipment or location when a device user scans the associated barcode, a Route or Measurement Location representing the route(s) and checkpoint(s) for that piece of equipment or location must be assigned the same scan ID. When a piece of equipment or a location is linked to a checkpoint, provided that you have configured the Has Checkpoint family code item as needed, the Scan ID field on the Measurement Location will be populated automatically with the value from a field on the relevant Equipment or Functional Location, as specified in the family code item.
The documentation in this section provides details on assigning scan IDs to Rounds records and how the scan IDs are used on the device. The documentation does not provide details on creating barcode or RFID tags. We assume that you have barcode or RFID tags or a means of creating them.
How you assign your scan IDs will vary depending upon your company needs. We recommend that you read the Tips for Assigning Scan IDs topic in this documentation before assigning scan IDs to GE Digital APM records.
After you download a Route to a device and scan a barcode or RFID tag, the device will search for the value that is stored in the Scan ID field in the Route or Measurement Location. When you scan a barcode that matches the scan ID that you assigned to a Route, the device will display the Rounds Data Collection page, with the first checkpoint selected. Before you assign scan IDs to barcode or RFID tags, you should consider the following tips:
You can assign scan IDs to identify the barcode or RFID that is associated with Measurement Locations that are linked directly to a Route.
You can use to assign scan IDs to Measurement Location:
