Restoring Archives using Volume Shadow Copy Service on Windows XP Professional SP3, Windows Server 2003, or Windows XPe

About this task

Note: If you want to restore a current online archive file, you must first stop an online Historian archiver and then restore an archive into Historian.

Procedure

  1. Launch the Backup or Restore Wizard.
    • Click Start, point to All Programs > Accessories > System Tools, and then click Backup.
    • On the Start menu, click Run, type ntbackup, and then click OK.
  2. Click Next.
    The Backup or Restore screen appears.
  3. Select Restore files and settings and then click Next.
    The What to Restore screen appears.
  4. Click Browse.
    The Open Backup File screen appears.
  5. Locate the backup file.
    • Enter the physical path where the backup file is stored and then click OK.
    • Click Browse to navigate to the file location.
  6. Select the backup (.bkf) file from the Backup Identification Label list and then click Next.
  7. Click Advanced.
    The Where to Restore screen appears.
  8. From the Restore files to drop-down list, select Alternate location.
  9. Click Browse to navigate to the location you want to restore the files to and then click OK.
  10. Click Next.
    The How to Restore screen appears.
  11. In the How to Restore area, select the appropriate restore option and then click Next.
    The Advanced Restore Options screen appears.
  12. Select the appropriate restore option and then click Next.
  13. Click Finish.

What to do next

After restoring the archives files (that is, .bkf or .vhd into .iha) using the Windows Restore wizard is complete, you must restore the archives (.iha) into Historian.
