Configure the OPC UA Protocol Adapter

About This Task

The OPC UA Protocol Adapter connects to OPC servers that use the OPC UA format. It is recommended to use this adapter when an OPC UA server is available and a product-specific OT Connect adapter is not available.
The OPC UA Adapter offers the following capabilities:
  • LastReading
  • SubscribeReadings
  • GetStartEndReadings

Procedure

Configure the OT source by providing the following information:
FieldDescription
Host NameEnter the host name or the FQDN of the target historian server. The host name must match the name you provided when installing the target historian server.
User NameEnter the OPC UA server username.
PasswordEnter the OPC UA server password.

Configure the OSI PI Protocol Adapter

About This Task

The OSI PI Protocol Adapter can connect to PI Server 2010 and later, using the Asset Framework (AF) protocol. This allows OT Connect to support PI without an intervening OPC server. The AF protocol offers improved security, performance, and reliability. Therefore, it is recommended to use this adapter to connect to an OSI PI server. To do so, the PI AF Client must be installed on the OT Connect Process Data server.

Procedure

  1. Install the PI AF Client. For instructions, refer to the OSIsoft documentation.
  2. As needed, grant the required authorization so that the OSI PI Protocol Adapter communicates with the PI Data Archive using the AF SDK.
  3. If PI Trust is in use, grant the required authorization to allow the OSI Protocol Adapter service to connect through PI Trust. This includes the host name authorization via hostname filtering if used by OSI PI.
  4. If PI Trust is in use with application name filtering, add the OSI Protocol Adapter service name to the allowed applications list.
  5. Configure the OT Source using the following connection details:
    FieldDescription
Host NameEnter the host name or the FQDN of the target server. The host name must match the name that is configured in the System Explorer.
User NameEnter the Windows user name of the machine configured with a PI mapping.
PasswordEnter the Windows password of the machine configured with a PI mapping.
