Assess the Safety Integrity Level (SIL) via an External Method

Before You Begin

• Create an Instrumented Function.

Steps

1. Access the Instrumented Function for which you want to assess the Safety Integrity Level (SIL).

2. In the workspace, select the SIL Assessment tab.

   The SIL Assessment section appears.

   

3. In the SIL Assessment section, in the upper-right corner of the All SIL Assessments subsection, select Add Assessment, and then select External.

   The External datasheet appears.

   

4. As needed, enter values in available fields.

5. In the upper-right corner of the datasheet, select .

   The SIL assessment is performed.

Results

• The External SIL Assessment that you have created is listed in the SIL Assessment section.
