Backing up Archives with Volume Shadow Copy Service on Windows Server 2008, 2008 R2, or 2012 R2

Before you begin

  • You must also be a member of the Backup Operators or Administrators group.
  • You must install backup and recovery tools first. For more information about Installing Widows Server Backup Tools, refer to Microsoft's website at: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc770266(WS.10).aspx
  • Ensure that you have enough hard drive space on your default backup location before backing up your archives.
  • For optimum performance, save the paging file of the operating system, Historian archives, and scheduled backup directory on separate drives.

Procedure

  1. Click Start, point to All Programs > Administrative Tools, and then click Windows Server Backup. The Windows Server Backup Wizard appears.
  2. In the Actions pane, click Backup Once to create a manual backup. The Backup Once Wizard appears.
  3. Click Next. The Select Backup Configuration screen appears.
  4. Select items to back up.
    • For Windows 2008:
      1. Select Custom and then click Next. The Select Items screen appears.
      2. Select the check boxes for the volumes that you want to back up, and then click Next.
    • For Windows 2008 R2 and 2012 R2:
      1. Click Add Items. The Select Items screen appears.
      2. Expand the folder tree and select the items that you want to back up.
      3. Click OK and then click Next.
    The Specify Destination Type screen appears.
  5. In the Choose the type of storage for the backup area, select the appropriate storage option, and then click Next.
    The Select Backup Destination screen appears.
  6. Select the destination path from the Backup destination drop-down list and then click Next.
    The Confirmation screen appears.
  7. Click Backup.
    The Backup Progress screen appears.
  8. When the backup process completes, click Close.
