LONDON (September 26, 2024) — GE Vernova’s Nuclear business, GE Hitachi Nuclear Energy (GEH), has progressed to the next stage of Great British Nuclear’s (GBN) Small Modular Reactor (SMR) competition.

The SMR competition is part of the government’s plan to revive nuclear power and for the UK to lead the global race to develop cutting-edge nuclear technologies. The shortlist has been narrowed to four candidates and in the next phase, successful companies will have the opportunity to bid for government contracts.

WILMINGTON, N.C. (May 9, 2024) - High burnup fuel rods, manufactured by GE Vernova’s Nuclear Fuel business, Global Nuclear Fuel (GNF), have been delivered to the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) for examination after commercial operation. The rods completed three full cycles of operation at a U.S. nuclear power plant.

WILMINGTON, North Carolina: February 14, 2024 — GE Vernova’s Nuclear Fuel business, Global Nuclear Fuel (GNF), today announced that it has received approval from the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) to manufacture, ship and analyze the performance of nuclear fuel with Uranium-235 enrichments of up to 8 weight percent.

WILMINGTON, North Carolina: January 25, 2024 — GE Vernova’s Nuclear business, GE Hitachi Nuclear Energy (GEH), today welcomed confirmation it has been awarded a £33.6 million UK Future Nuclear Enabling Fund (FNEF) grant from the Department for Energy Security & Net Zero (DESNZ). The UK Government has ambitions for 24 GW of nuclear by 2050 to help in providing energy security for the UK and for meeting net zero.
