Overview
AES Gener S.A. is Chile’s second largest power generation company, and GE Steam Power’s multi-year agreement with AES Gener overhauled nine steam turbines and generators at four of their thermal-fired power plants throughout the nation.
This overhaul employs GE’s ability to repair and support steam and generator capacity regardless of the original equipment manufacturer—enabling AES Gener to meet Chile’s energy demand, which is increasing 3.5% annually.
The agreement comes at a time when a more sustainable infrastructure is the focus for area individuals, families, as well as businesses in the region.
Outcomes
overhauled across 4 thermal-fired power plants
annual increase in Chile’s energy demand
Given our need to keep good and reliable maintenance procedures for our thermal-fired power plants to help address the country’s energy demands, we selected GE because they have the expertise to service steam turbines and generators.

While part of Chile’s additional generation capacity will come from increased renewable energy production, the nation’s utilities also are making significant investments to increase the output and efficiency of their existing thermal power stations,” said Ramon Paramio, General Manager of GE’s Power Services business in Latin America. “To meet the country’s growing demands for cleaner, more affordable electricity, we are excited to support AES’ steam turbine-generator overhaul initiative and demonstrate how our total plant solutions can successfully deliver greater value to our customers throughout the region.
