How do I eliminate excess items?

Click the following links for detailed process information:

Use the following procedure to eliminate items if you enabled the Auto Create option in your I/O driver configuration and you created iFIX database blocks that required items. This procedure removes any incorrectly configured items or unused items.

Using the Auto Create option also adds items with default values. If you have modified the data type of one or more items, use the procedure at the end of this topic.

NOTE: You may not be able to delete items from the driver configuration because another computer may start accessing them.

 To eliminate excess items:

  1. With iFIX running, open Mission Control, click the SAC tab, and click Stop, to stop SAC.
  2. Open the I/O Driver Power Tool and delete all the items. Do not delete servers and groups.
  3. Return to Mission Control and the SAC tab. Click Start. The driver automatically adds the necessary items with the default settings defined in the Power Tool.

This procedure guarantees that the I/O driver configuration in the Power Tool matches what you are accessing in your iFIX database.

If you made specific modifications to one or more items, such as a different requested data type for each item in a group, use the following procedure.

To eliminate excess items for specialized configuration files:

  1. Save the current driver configuration as .CSV file.
  2. Perform the three steps above for removing excess items.
  3. Compare the .CSV file to the new configuration. Note any differences.
  4. Modify the .CSV file as needed.
  5. Open the modified .CSV file and save it as a driver configuration file.
