One of the main applications for implementing an alarm strategy is the System Configuration Utility (SCU). This program provides a set of tools for:
- Enabling, disabling, and configuring alarm services, and configuring the alarm horn.
- Editing and maintaining the alarm area database.
- Defining a common set of alarm areas for all alarm destinations.
- Defining specific alarm areas for each alarm destination.
- Defining a common alarm format.
- Assigning alarm areas to operator, recipe, and SQL system task messages.
- Specifying the path to the alarm area database.
These tools are available from the SCU toolbox, as the following figure shows:
