Smarthub integrates
smart meter data with Utilihive
(now part of GE Vernova)

Smarthub is a Norwegian service provider driving the energy revolution by delivering smart metering and smart-grid-as-a-service for distribution system operators (DSOs). It is currently delivering these services to ten DSOs. Smarthub operates the head-end system, consumption value validations, meter data management system, and integration with the Norwegian datahub known as Elhub. The DSOs operate their own customer information systems, work order management systems, distribution management systems (DMSes), and SCADAs. To automate the smart metering value chain, Smarthub needed a multi-tenant integration solution with a minimal time-to-market.

Utilihive was chosen to provide Smarthub with its data integration capabilities, with which Smarthub could achieve end-to-end integration for smart-meter and smart-grid operations . Utilihive supports the meter-to-cash process, commissioning and provisioning of smart meters, required asset synchronization, required integration with the Norwegian Elhub, and handling of events and alarms for DMS and SCADA. With Utilihive, Smarthub could simulate the consumption readings from all planned smart meters before the rollout. Utilihive also monitors all data flows.

Smarthub went live with Utilihive less than three months after signing the contract, and began delivering immediate to the DSOs. With the subscription model of Utilihive, Smarthub’s upfront costs for the solution’s configuration were minimal. The subscription for Utilihive is based on the number of smart meters deployed, giving Smarthub a predictable price for system integration. Since Smarthub can now seamlessly access data across the value chain, it can drive new insight applications with agility and a lean startup approach when launching new services.
