Introduction

The Field Is Evolving—Is Your Mobile App Keeping Up?

Energy organizations across the globe seek to provide innovative tools, not only in their corporate offices, but for their field engineers as well. Yet, many organizations today are relying on legacy mobile applications or paper processes for maintenance, inspections, and operational efficiency.

Making the move from legacy mobile applications to modern mobile solutions for Asset Performance Management (APM) can address the key challenges of legacy applications, such as:
  • Limited offline capabilities
  • Outdated user interface (UI) and user experience (UX)
  • Required specialized devices or middleware to operate
  • Difficult integration with data platforms, other applications, or AI/ML models
  • Difficult to update, scale, or support across multiple sites
  • Ensuring confidence level for compliance and regulatory tracking
In this blog, we will explore how GE Vernova’s Power & Energy Resources Software business has modernized APM Health’s mobile offering, Rounds, into a more productive and effective Rounds Pro application.

A Better Way Forward

“On July 15 2025, Rounds Pro processed ~1.2 million readings in 24 hours. Legacy Rounds takes ~1 second per reading, so it would have taken roughly 13.5 days if it didn't crash for legacy to process the same load.”

Martha Saker

Director of APM Health Product Management

With the end-of-life of GE Vernova’s Rounds application announced in Q3 2025, it is integral to help organizations more easily migrate from the legacy application to Rounds Pro. For our existing APM Health users, we’ve developed a migration tool that makes it easier to shift Rounds data to Rounds Pro to take advantage of new features and functionality that we will discuss shortly. For new customers, Rounds Pro will be the new baseline offering going forward.

This migration tool helps:
  1. Migrate your legacy Rounds data at the route level. When you choose to migrate a route, multiple routes, or all the routes in your organization, the migration tool does all of the following:

    a. Migrate your measurement locations, including their conditionals

    b. Migrate health indicators that are based on your measurement locations

    c. Migrate schedules defined at your measurement locations as Rounds Pro schedules and associate them with the Rounds Pro Steps

    d. Migrate your actions as Action Picklists to improve reusability

    e. Migrate all the allowable values as picklists

    f. Update Operator Round recommendations with new relationships

    g. Link the measurement steps and lubrication steps to the respective assets

    h. Any users and teams associated with the legacy routes will be associated with the Rounds Pro Route Masters
  2. Migrate the readings associated with the measurement steps, including any GIO location data captured as part of the readings
With the migration tool, you will also be able to start using Rounds Pro in less than a few minutes for a majority of routes.

Benefits of using Rounds Pro migration tool

Listed below are some additional highlights of the migration tool.

Designed to run multiple times : Since data structures are different, this would lead to modifications being made to the legacy Rounds data to get migrated. The migration tool has been designed to run multiple times for the same data. For example, when you migrate a route from legacy Rounds to Rounds Pro and identify an issue during the migration process after reviewing the migration log, you have the provision to correct the data in legacy Rounds and rerun the migration utility.

Migrate all (or) migrate through a query: User may require the flexibility to migrate all the data at once or roll out Rounds Pro in batches. To accommodate this, you can use queries to migrate specific data, for example, all the routes that belong to a specific site or just a single route for testing.

Migrate specific items: Helps you to migrate specific data item like routes, route with readings, or routes with OPR recommendations.

No data deletion: The migration tool will not delete any data in legacy Rounds.

Logging: The tool provides capabilities for extensive logging. After each run a long entry gets created with extensive information about the action taken on each record. This helps in taking the required corrective actions.

What is The Difference Between Legacy Rounds and Rounds Pro?

Criteria

Legacy Rounds

Rounds Pro

Scalability
Limited to asset condition data collection and recommendations
Focus on targeting shift operations and asset condition monitoring for reliability improvement, O&M excellence, and compliance
Features/Capabilities
Performs mobile visual asset condition data collection and management
Analysis of mobile visual asset condition data collection and management with the ability to attach photos as part of readings, certificate-based authentication for seamless and secure login, extensive support for barcode scanning, and NFC functionality
Performance & Quality
Performance and quality in the product led to user dissatisfaction
Improved performance and quality with the app platform built native to the mobile application
Mobility
Reduced flexibility in the mobility of the application
Increased interoperability, data uploading/downloading & reduced app chattiness for poor network conditions
Collaboration within APM
Limited ability to integrate and collaborate with other APM modules
Dedicated link to integrate & collaborate with APM Strategy for asset strategy management through Steps creation and a platform designed to improve collaboration
User Experience
Complicated workflow led to difficulty in user experience
Better user experience due to flexible and user-centric logical navigation in the application
Application Compatibility
Not backward compatible, server-app version are tightly coupled
App can be latest version when compared to the server. No need to sign/re-sign, the latest app is always available in the public stores for immediate consumption
Application Architecture
Rigid and limited scaling capability of the application architecture
Built on the latest mobile and web-based architectures, helps push more frequent updates
Data Management
Handles smaller dataset during data management (250+ steps/ route)
Allows handling of larger dataset (1000+ steps/ route)
Data Access and Connectivity
Limited utilization of the available bandwidth
Utilizes complete bandwidth availability in the mobile app. Scales the data upload rate up or down in the background based on the network bandwidth.
Modern Operator Rounds: Migrating to Rounds Pro
Modern Operator Rounds: Migrating to Rounds Pro
Tangible Value for Energy Enterprises

The shift from legacy Rounds to Rounds Pro in GE Vernova’s APM Health application provide organizations the ability to:
  • Faster execute work
  • Determine near real-time health scores for operators to prioritize maintenance
  • Work online or offline to help increase data fidelity
  • Easier integration with APM and EAM systems
  • Enhance condition monitoring with AI integration, e.g., with Autonomous Inspection)
  • Expand data capture to robotics and fixed cameras
Check out our latest blog on the benefits of Operator Rounds software and the latest features of Rounds Pro.

By deploying Rounds Pro, organizations can also take advantage of a modern condition-monitoring solution that can help shape the path to expanded connected worker initiatives, robotics routes, and enterprise scalability for all operators.

With the enhancements made to Rounds Pro, new and existing GE Vernova APM customers can take advantage of a truly enterprise-ready APM software suite. As APM Health and Rounds Pro users, organizations get the benefit of Essentials—a microservice-based SaaS architecture for data operations. Essentials and APM Health together give organizations the ability to deploy and scale condition-based maintenance programs, identify asset monitoring blind spots, and ultimately reduce overall operational risk.

Due to the advancements of Rounds Pro, GE Vernova’s APM has plans to integrate AI-based computer vision models from Autonomous Inspection and expand data collection into robotics via API integration with Robotic Operating Systems (ROS). Today, GE Vernova and ANYbotics have signed a formal collaboration agreement to make advancements of condition-based monitoring via mobile robots possible for asset intensive organizations across the globe.

Why Modernize Your Mobile Applications?
Mobile transformation isn’t about replacing what worked in the past—it’s about preparing for what’s next. The longer organizations hold onto legacy mobile systems, the more value they leave on the table in the form of lost time, missed insights, and frustrated workers.

With the right migration strategy and tools, you can turn that inertia into momentum and give your field teams the tools they need to keep your assets running and your business moving forward.
