Introduction

In asset-intensive industrial environments, operator rounds are only as effective as the tools that support them. When data entry is difficult, navigation is slow, and screens are hard to use onsite, even routine tasks can take more time and effort than they should.

The new feature updates in our Rounds Pro 2.0 release address these pitfalls.

This release builds on the foundation of our existing Rounds Pro experience while introducing a more modern, efficient, and operator-friendly design. Guided by field feedback and practical use cases, Rounds Pro 2.0 focuses on improving usability, streamlining workflows, and helping operators capture data with greater speed and confidence.

Explore the key enhancements available in Rounds Pro 2.0.

New User Interface: Designed with the Operator in Mind

One of the most noticeable differences in Rounds Pro 2.0 is the updated user interface. From the app icon, splash screen, and login experience to the core data collection workflows, the application has been refreshed to feel more modern and easier to use.

The updated design incorporates practical usability improvements requested by field users including:
  • Larger buttons
  • Better contrast
  • Improved readability
  • Layouts that make better use of screen space

A Refreshed Login Experience

The login screen has been redesigned with a cleaner and more modern layout. This includes improvements to the screen used for entering the server URL and tenant information, making the initial sign-in experience more intuitive and visually consistent with the rest of the application.

For users who work in offline scenarios, we have also improved the offline PIN entry experience. Based on customer feedback, the previous keypad was too small and difficult to use—particularly when operators were wearing gloves or working quickly in the field. In Rounds Pro 2.0, the offline PIN keypad has been significantly enlarged, making it easier to log in.

A More Efficient Data Collection Experience

The Quick Data Collection (QDC) screen is where operators spend much of their time, and hence, this was a major focus area for this release.

In Rounds Pro 2.0, the QDC screen has been redesigned to provide more usable space for entering readings and reviewing Steps. The new layout reduces wasteful white space and makes better use of the available screen area, allowing operators to focus on the information that matters most.

Listed below are several improvements that will make the QDC experience more effective:
  • Enhanced scrolling performance, even for larger routes
  • Improved controls for selecting readings from drop-down lists
  • Direct access to photos, comments, and recommendations from within the QDC screen
  • A new shortcut to the Step Details screen for each step
  • Improved search, allowing operators to search not only by asset, but also by step
  • The ability to collapse progress information under search to create more space for data entry
  • Better cursor retention and keyboard behaviour, making repeated entry easier and more consistent
We also introduced minor but meaningful visual improvements. For example:
  • Conditional steps are now represented with an icon instead of text, saving space on smaller screens
  • Completed steps are shown with a darker background shade, in addition to the existing checkmark, making completion status easier to spot immediately
  • Asset headers are now expanded by default, so operators can begin collecting readings immediately without extra taps
Together, these changes help reduce friction and improve focus during rounds execution

Numeric Keypad for Numeric Readings

Based on user feedback, we have introduction a numeric keypad for numeric readings.

Previously, numeric values were entered using an alphanumeric keyboard, which could slow operators down and increase the chance of input errors—especially in demanding field conditions.

With Rounds Pro 2.0, the keyboard now adapts to the type of data being entered:
  • Numeric readings display a numeric keypad
  • Text-based entries continue to display a standard alphanumeric keypad
The numeric keypad also respects regional formatting preferences, adapting to the user’s locale for decimal entry. Whether a user works with a period or comma as the decimal separator, the keypad supports that experience natively.

A Smarter Way to Focus on Incomplete Work

Another enhancement in the QDC screen is a new filter that allows operators to view only incomplete readings.

With this filter enabled, completed steps are hidden from view, allowing operators to focus only on what remains to be done. As readings are entered, those steps no longer appear in the filtered list— helping the operator focus on remaining work.

This is useful in scenarios where the route is partially completed and resumed later or when the work is handed off between operators. Rather than spending time identifying unfinished readings manually, operators can immediately focus on the steps that still require action.

Better Navigation Between Screens

Rounds Pro 2.0 also improves the experience of transitioning between the Quick Data Collection screen and the Step Details screen.

In earlier versions, navigation between these screens could feel stilted, particularly when operators need to move back and forth frequently. In the new version, performance has been improved so navigation remains smooth, even with larger routes.

One important usability improvement is context retention. Previously, when an operator moved from QDC to Step Details and then returned, they might need to relocate the step they were working on. In Rounds Pro 2.0, returning from the Step Details screen takes the operator back to the exact position they left, reducing unnecessary scrolling and helping them stay in flow.

Redesigned Step Details Screen

The Step Details screen has also been significantly improved.

The step and asset headers scroll naturally with the rest of the screen. This increases the amount of space available for entering readings and comments giving operators more room to focus on the active task.

We have also added more context directly within the Step Details screen including:
  • The last reading for the step
  • A reading history table showing the 15 most recent readings along with the reading value, and reading status indicators — normal, warning, or alert. It also shows the date and time the reading was taken, and any other comments entered previously.
This additional context helps operators make more informed decisions in the field. Instead of seeing a reading in isolation, they can understand it in the context of recent history and prior observations.

The overall screen layout has also been improved to make it more user-friendly, especially when moving between steps using the Previous and Next navigation buttons.

Configurable Datasheets for Recommendations

In Rounds Pro 2.0, we have also introduced a new feature to customize recommendations —configurable datasheets for recommendations.

This gives organizations more flexibility to tailor recommendation workflows to their needs. For example, if you want to add a field such as Notification Type to the recommendation form, you now can configure it in APM Family Configuration Manager.

This allows the recommendation workflow to become more configurable and relevant to the operational needs of the organization.

We have also expanded recommendation functionality in other ways:
  • Asset ID is now available for standalone recommendations.
  • The Asset ID field is presented as a dropdown list, showing all the assets available within the selected route. This makes it easier to associate a recommendation with the appropriate asset.
The photo experience within recommendations has also been redesigned. Photos are now displayed in a more streamlined vertical layout, making them easier to review. Photo deletion has also been simplified through a clear trash icon next to each image.

Faster Barcode Scanning

Rounds Pro 2.0 introduces a new barcode scanning plugin to improve scanning performance. With this update, barcode scans are faster and more reliable, helping operators move through route execution more efficiently. The scanner also includes support for the device flashlight, which can improve performance in low-light conditions commonly found in field environments.

More Than a Refresh: Other Usability Enhancements

While some of the changes in Rounds Pro 2.0 are immediately visible, the bigger story is how the release improves everyday usability for operators in the field.

This version was shaped by practical feedback and real usage scenarios:
  • Entering data quickly
  • Working with gloves
  • Minimizing extra navigation
  • Focusing on incomplete work
  • Accessing more context at the point of action
  • Improving confidence during rounds execution
Rounds Pro 2.0 is a step ahead in making the operator experience more intuitive, more efficient, and better aligned with the realities of industrial work.

Conclusion: Looking Ahead

As plants continue to look for ways to improve reliability, operator effectiveness, and data quality, the tools used in the field matter just as much as the systems in the control room.

Rounds Pro 2.0 reflects this and is designed to help operators work faster, capture better data, and navigate their tasks with less friction — while giving organizations a more flexible and modern rounds experience.
