What is APM V5.0 or V5?

V5.0 or V5 is the latest version of GE’s APM offering available to both on-premisesand cloud customers. Cloud customers would get V5 in the form of their Q4’22 release. V5 will offer superior quality and performance, several new and enhanced capabilities and enable a smoother user experience, vs. earlier APM versions.

What does V5 mean for my APM applications?

Several foundational enhancements (like architectural changes) available in V5 will positively impact the performance and usability of APM applications (like APM Reliability, Strategy and others). Besides foundational enhancements, several applications in V5 will witness the launch of application-specific features or enhancements. All of this means that you’d have access to applications which are more feature-rich, intuitive and useful.

Would V5 on-premises version feature Advanced Visualization capabilities?

Yes, one of the significant updates in V5 for our on-premises customers is the availability of Advanced Visualization & Business Intelligence (BI) capabilities, which were only available in the cloud before V5. Now, our on-premises customers can also get more value out of their APM data with built-in business intelligence, rich visual analysis, and reporting & collaboration capabilities with V5.

What would be some of the other key new capabilities or enhancements in V5 on-premises version, besides Advanced Visualization and BI?

V5 includes several notable updates including:
  • Improved quality & performance with more performant data-loader infrastructure (G2DL) and a far scalable Scheduler service
  • Intuitive interface featuring a new navigation menu and redesigned user experience (UX) for several modules including Risk-based inspection, Inspection Management, Reliability-Centered Maintenance (RCM) and Failure Mode & Effect Analysis (FMEA) modules
  • Application-specific new releases/enhancements including Integrity Mobile; new Accelerator Content and Advanced analytical capabilities

How would my path to V5.0 look like?

Your path to V5 will involve several key milestones, with GE Digital teams always there to support and guide you during your transition to V5. Broadly, the upgrade milestones would typically involve pre-upgrade analysis and recommendations, fitgap analysis, demos, configurations, testing, go-live, training and support. GE Digital has an established a Digital Delivery Methodology and integrated Services & Support Teams with deep experience across Power Generation, Oil & Gas, Manufacturing, Mining and Aviation industries.

Would the upgrade involve any manual interventions for on-premises customers?

Yes, from a technical point of view, V5 will be a major upgrade which involves dropping table such as MI_Entities
  • GE will have already updated all baseline queries, policies, etc. to support the new version
  • GE will closely work with the customers to identify and execute on specific areas where manual changes will be required.

Can we use V5 and earlier versions at the same time?

Yes, it is possible for customers to have multiple sites which are on different versions of APM. However, we’d recommend you use one version (preferably the latest one) across the organization to maximize benefits from leveraging the latest technological capabilities, standardization and cross-collaboration.
