Product description

What is the Variable Inlet Guide Vane upgrade?

  • Variable Inlet Air Vanes help guide inlet airflow to enhance engine performance.
  • Assembly located in front of Low Pressure Compressor (LPC), consisting of 43 stationary leading-edge vanes and variable trailing flaps (rotate -10 to +60 degrees).
  • Variable Differential Transformers (LVDTs) on actuator ring drivetwin hydraulic actuators.
  • LVDTs and VIGV positions are controlled by continuous measurement of LPC inlet temperature and HPC discharge static pressure.
  • If turbine has Fixed Inlet Guide Vanes, the upgrade involves adding VIGVs, Hydraulic Control Unit (HCU) (if applicable), off-engine cables, hydraulic lines and updating the software.

Benefits

Increase your gas turbine’s performance

Together with the Enhanced Flow and Speed (EFS) upgrade, VIGVs can also increase power at full load and boost performance further.

What can the VIGV upgrade do for you?

  • Increased power output by up to 3.25 MW
  • Improved performance for simple and combined-cycle applications at part load and reduced turbine waste heat
  • Lowered Variable Bypass Valve (VBV) flow, reducing associated flow noise
  •  LM6000PC SPRINT® turbines with EFS have an average power increase of 2 MW, more than a 2% fuel efficiency increase at 70% power, and an exhaust energy increase of 3%
  • The VIGV closes during large power reductions to quickly reduce LPC flow to maintain stall margin

Variable inlet guide vanes

Full range of VIGV benefits

  • The VIGV assembly is mounted to the front of the Low Pressure Compressor (LPC) and consists of 43 stationary leading-edge vanes and 43 variable trailing-edge flaps.
  • Twin hydraulic actuators with Linear Variable Differential Transducers (LVDT) are mounted on the on the actuator ring.
  • VIGV position is controlled by continuous measurement of LPC inlet temperature and High-Pressure Compressor (HPC) discharge pressure.
  • If the turbine has Fixed Inlet Guide Vanes (FIGV), the upgrade involves adding the VIGV module, a new Hydraulic Control Unit (if applicable), off-engine cables, hydraulic lines, and updating the control software.
