ST heat conservation—warm and hot
During a steam turbine restart, the HP and IP steam turbine modules are loaded within the admissible stress limits and load gradients. Stress limits as well as load gradients are highly depending on the measured metal temperatures of the ST rotor. The warmer the rotor is at restart, the faster ST can be loaded and operated at its nominal capacity.

Benefits of warm startup
- Typically allows starting the ST in warm “start 1” conditions, leading to a start-up time saving of up to 40 minutes and a fuel saving up to 15%
- The HP and IP ST are kept in warm conditions (or pre-warm). Target temperature for the critical zone of the rotor is 210°C
