The challenge
South Korea's power generation sector has historically relied heavily on fossil fuels, particularly coal and oil, which account for nearly 60% of the country's energy needs. This dependency poses significant environmental challenges and risks to energy security. Tongyeong Eco Power sought a sustainable solution to provide reliable and efficient electricity while reducing carbon emissions.
The solution
To address these challenges, GE Vernova supplied the Tongyeong combined cycle power plant with cutting-edge equipment, including two 7HA.02 gas turbines, one STF-D600 steam turbine, two Heat Recovery Steam Generators (HRSG), and three H65 generators. GE Vernova also committed to providing maintenance services for the 7HA.02 gas turbines and generators over the next 17 years. This comprehensive solution not only enhances plant efficiency but also supports South Korea's efforts to become energy self-reliant.
