Proven and tested performance
With proven and tested performance, and more than 55 million operating hours, the 6B provides cost-effective power you can count on.
With more than 1,200 6B units installed since 1978, the world has come to trust its dependability.
Since it can be operated on a wide range of gas or distillate liquids, the 6B gas turbine allows for the use of the most economically available fuel. Standard combustion supports heavy oils, naphtha, bioethanol, methanol, synthetic gases, and steel mill gases and capable of up to 100% hydrogen, or heavy fuel oil with up to 200 ppm vanadium. DLN combustion supports low-cost gas and liquid fuels, including process gases, low calorific gases, and up to 30% hydrogen, 50% ethane, 100% propane, and 50% nitrogen.
Standardized architecture and pre-assembled packaging with accessories allow for a delivery cycle of close to 10 months from contract signature to commercial operation.
The 6B gas turbine was created for extreme conditions—it can handle multiple startups, can operate in island mode, and even features black start capability for volatile grid environments. Its proven technology makes it well-suited for a wide range of applications—from simple-cycle operation to cogeneration, and combined-cycle to mechanical drive. The 289 MMBtu/hr exhaust energy at 549˚C can generate a high quantity of steam with pressure up to 110 bar for industrial steam without supplementary firing.

~15%
additional capacity to Jamaica’s grid
Jamaica Public Service Company Ltd. (JPS), Jamaica’s sole distributor of electricity, is working to update power infrastructure,
including replacement of obsolete power stations that run on heavy fuel oil. With low natural gas prices, JPS was seeking to build a new dual fuel combined-cycle power plant, and selected GE’s 6B gas turbine as the workhorse of the Old Harbour combined cycle power plant. The turbines will run primarily on imported LNG and feature DLN1 combustion, which will save more than 300 kJ/kWh versus traditional STD combustion.

The Jababeka Industrial Estate was established in 1989 as the “first modern Indonesian eco-industrial estate.” Early growth was limited due to a restricted supply of reliable power. The estate turned to independent power producer PT Cikarang Listrindo to provide a new reliable supply of electricity. With interest in the estate increasing, the plant had to guarantee a certain level of reliable output at each phase of expansion. The original Jababeka Industrial Estate gas-fired power plant was constructed in 1993 to provide 60 MW of output with two GE 6B gas turbines. In 1996, PT Cikarang Listrindo added four 6B units.
