Overview
With temperatures rising above above 100°F/40°C, it is critical for Nubaria Power Plant to meet Egypt’s high demand for power in the summer months.
By installing AGP and DLN technologies on two 9FA gas turbines, GE was able to help Nubaria Power Plant improve their heat rate by 3% and its total output by 6.7%.
Outcomes
improved heat rate
GE gas and steam turbines across Egypt
increased plant output
of power supplied to Egyptian grid
increased plant availability
Installing GE’s advanced technologies will help us enhance the operational efficiency and reduce fuel consumption of our existing power plants. This upgrade also will help increase the output of the Nubaria power plant to be able to meet peak demand as we approach the summer.

The summer months are a crucial time for power generation in Egypt, when average temperatures can soar above 100°F/40°C. In order to meet the summer demand, Middle Delta Electricity Production Company needed a solution to improve the output and efficiency of its combined-cycle Nubaria Power Plant in Beheira, Egypt.
Middle Delta Electricity Production Company chose to install GE’s combustion solutions, including Advanced Gas Path, Advanced Extendors Combustion, and Dry Low NOx 2.6+, on two GE 9FA gas turbines. The upgrades are the first-of-their-kind in the Middle East and Africa and improve the plant’s heat rate by 3% and its overall output by 6.7%.
GE’s advanced technologies combine hardware with customized software solutions resulting in real-time insights. These insights are supported by data and help to measure asset management, performance indicators and maintenance cost evaluations. The implementation of GE’s advanced technologies will increase Nubaria power plant’s availability by 3.7%, allowing for continuous operation without shutdown over a four-year period and increasing the life cycle of newly installed parts from six to 12 years.
For more than 40 years, GE has supported Egypt in bringing sustainable energy solutions to the region. As a result, more than 140 GE gas and steam turbines are supplying energy throughout the country—generating more than 15.5 gigawatts of power for over 15 million Egyptians.
